REPAIR/SHARPENING SERVICES

Although MAC knives will retain their razor-sharp edges longer than most other brands and can usually be maintained at home using only the Rollsharp; we do offer sharpening and repair services for knives that have gotten too dull or have small chips in the edge. We use the same equipment and techniques as our factory in Japan to restore edges to the same MAC-factory level.

Here are the rates we charge:

Sharpening (MAC brand only, includes minor repairs):

Blades up to 6" in length: $8.00/ea

Blades over 6" and up to 10" in length: $10.00/ea

Blades over 10" in length: $12.00/ea

Single-bevel hand sharpening (for deba and yanagiba knives): $4.00/inch of blade length, rounded up.  i.e. 10.5" yanagiba will cost $44.00 (11 x $4)

Extras (MAC brand only):

Broken Tip Repair (minor tip repairs are included with sharpening rates above, this fee is for more extensive repairs): appropriate sharpening rate from above plus $2.00 additional (i.e. an 8" blade will cost $12.00; $10.00 for sharpening plus $2.00 for tip repair)

Chipped Edge Repair: appropriate sharpening rate from above plus $4.00 additional (i.e. an 8" blade will cost $14.00; $10.00 for sharpening plus $4.00 for grinding out the chips and re-tapering the blade). Note: Chips less than 1/32" deep will not be charged this additional fee (about 1/32" is ground during normal sharpening). Chips in the edge must be 1/8" or less in depth into the blade to be repairable. Chips deeper than 1/8", please call 1-888-622-5643 to discuss other options.

Serrated Edge Fee: appropriate sharpening rate from above plus $5.00 additional (As of now, the only serrated edges we make are the BS-90, SB-105, MSB-105 and DA BS-230)

Warranty:

MAC Knife, Inc. USA will not be held responsible for the effect of its sharpening services on the warranty for knives other than those manufactured by MAC. In many instances, using our services to sharpen your knives may void the manufacturer's warranty. You may want to consult the manufacturer of your knives before using our sharpening services. Although we will put a factory-sharp edge on your knife, we do not guarantee the duration that the newly resharpened edge will last; this varies greatly depending on how you use your knives and the type of steel that the knives are made out of. We will use our discretion to determine the appropriate angle to sharpen your knives.

All MAC brand knives will still retain their original warranty after using our sharpening services.

How/Where to ship:

Address your knives to the following:

MAC Knife, Inc.
Attn: Repairs
9624 Kiefer Blvd Ste 1
Sacramento, CA 95827

Please be sure to fill out our Sharpening and Repair Services Form and include it inside the package with your knives. We will not be responsible for knives received without a filled-out form. The outer packaging will be discarded upon receipt and only the enclosed contents will be retained and used to identify your knives. Once we have received your knives, a representative will call you to obtain payment information. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit card payments.  Alternatively, you can include a check made payable to "MAC Knife" with your package.

Be sure to protect the tip and edge of the knife so that it does not puncture the outer packaging during transport. The easiest way is to roll the knife in several layers of newspaper and securing it with tape or rubber bands. Do not put any tape directly on the knife itself; it leaves a sticky mess that is difficult to remove. MAC Knife, Inc. will not be responsible for items lost during transit or for any injury caused to carrier employees due to improper packaging of a product.

Turn-around time:

In most cases your knives will be sharpened and be in transit back to you within 2 business days of receiving them. However, during busy periods we may take up to 10 business days to process your knives. If you are in a rush to get your knives back quickly, please call to find out if we have a backlog before sending us your knives. You can also choose to have us return your knives using an expedited shipping service such as UPS next-day, 2-day or 3-day for an additional fee. 1-888-MAC-KNIFE
